ABOUT US
Back in 1998, Charles Bloom and his wife Joanna launched the Barbara Kelly Contact Club. This started with local newspaper adverts recruiting people from all over the UK. Within 2 years, the database grew to over 150,000 members who received a monthly contact magazine full of adults wanting to make contact from all over the UK. The success of this meant increasing their staff levels and moving from the top floor of their home into a 4,000sqft office in Bushey, Hertfordshire.
Over the following years Charles decided to start selling adult products within his contact magazines. This proved to be an even bigger success and by 2002 he had bought an old Tesco store in the heart of Nottingham, which was launched as The Adult Gift Shop. At its launch, the superstore was quoted as Europe's largest licensed sex shop, covering 6,000sqft and to this day, is still offering one of the biggest selections of R18 DVDs in the UK. He converted the upstairs into the mail order department, launching two new web sites: one for the shop and the other was the now famous www.barbarakelly.co.uk
By 2003 the web and mail order business was again expanding, they needed a new home. Charles moved the Barbara Kelly mail order and online business back to Grosvenor House in Bushey, leaving the shop to grow and now run itself. The website was booming and the mail order sales were taking over the contact club business. Charles decided by the end of 2006 to stop publishing the contact magazine and focus purely on the online and mail order business.
Now we get to 2007 and with over 3,000 product lines, they now needed more space! Charles and Jo decided that the stock and product despatch part of the business needed a new home. It was moved into our new 3,000sqft warehouse in Chester leaving the call centre and customer care department in Watford.
Up to March 2008, Barbara Kelly has over 220,000 happy customers and growing. They are once again picking up sticks and recently moved into a new building in Watford to house the call centre and customer care department, which will assist them in expanding even further over the coming years.
